Epicmedia continues our collaboration with maestro Lav Diaz as we bring his latest epic, Makikiraan Po (Let Us Through, Dear Ancestors) to the Venice Film Festival.

The Philippines was forcefully reconstructed by imperial Spain via copious sex (we now call rape), gluttonous appetite (we now call plunder) and the promise of salvation (we now call cataclysm). The 17th century was a period of continual building of churches in the Philippines, and thousands of natives, especially males, died because of forced labor. These churches, created with deified grandeur, heavy stones, thick walls, and majestic high ceilings, are proofs of the horrors of colonization.
